Under-boobs, Spare tire, Hula Hoop, Saddle Bags, Butt Flap??? Why giving our “problem areas” pet names is not a good thing!

mbcn682lI recently put a question out to my Facebook followers which I’m sure made some of them really question themselves. The question was “Under-boobs, Spare tire, Hula Hoop, Saddle Bags, Butt Flap……These are some of the many “pet names” we have for our problem areas. What do you call your “extra baggage? Is naming our problem areas a good thing or is it creating a stumbling block on our road to success?” I was planning on answering this question in todays’ post but one of my contacts hit the nail on the head with her answer on my message board.

Andrea answered the question with the following:

Paul-my personal thought on this one is it sets us up for failure. Giving our problem areas adoring nicknames can possible make way for acceptance of the areas we want to improve on or that we know in our minds we can change.
Making an area of our body “cute” is most likely not the most proactive way to challenge ourselves and attack with determination. With that, I am not saying we should not be gentle with ourselves or accept our bodies. Going one step further past acceptance to comfort and coddle ourselves would suggest a stumbling block to success.

Andrea is bang-on. When we give our problem areas “pet-names” we begin to accept them in our lives. Thank you Andrea for your insight!
